To welcome the 2026 New Year, the students and international students of Sungshin Women’s University carried out the ‘Love Briquette Sharing’ volunteer activity together.
Sungshin Women’s University (President Seong Keun Yi) carried out the “Love Briquette Sharing” volunteer activity on the 6th to support vulnerable households with heating needs in Sangdo-dong, Dongjak-gu, Seoul, in celebration of the Byeong-o Year New Year.
Approximately 30 Korean enrolled students and international students of various nationalities currently studying at Sungshin Women’s University participated together as “one team.” In the spirit of welcoming the 2026 New Year, the participants personally delivered a total of 2,026 briquettes to households in need within the local community, sharing warmth and care with their neighbors.

This activity was particularly meaningful in that international students from Taiwan, Mongolia, Myanmar, Ecuador, Uzbekistan, China, Kazakhstan, Cambodia, and Kyrgyzstan—many of whom were experiencing their first winter in Korea—put the spirit of sharing into practice as members of the local community despite the unfamiliar winter environment. As they personally delivered briquettes while navigating steep alleyways, participating students formed a strong sense of community and solidarity that transcended language and cultural differences.
Nelya Kulpiyenova, a student from Kazakhstan majoring in Biotechnology who took part in the volunteer activity, shared her thoughts, saying, “It was meaningful to be able to contribute to the local community by participating in volunteer work in Korea. It was an especially valuable experience because international students and Korean students worked together and practiced the spirit of sharing through cooperation.”

Seong Keun Yi, President of Sungshin Women’s University, who also participated in the volunteer activity, stated, “This volunteer activity was a meaningful opportunity for students from diverse cultural backgrounds to share a sense of community and responsibility as members of Korean society.” He added, “The University will continue to carry out a wide range of social contribution initiatives so that students can stay connected to their local communities and put the values of sharing into practice wherever they may live around the world.”
Currently, Sungshin Women’s University is home to 1,619 international students from 42 countries. The University is fostering a global campus environment in which both Korean and international students can grow together, and is fulfilling its social responsibility as a global educational institution that connects the local community with the world through the continued expansion of student-centered exchange programs and social contribution activities.
