Sungshin Women’s University Holds Fall 2026 Workshop for New and International Students

“Chapter One: Welcome to Sungshin” Helps International Students Adjust to Campus Life and Build Connections

On September 5, 2026, Sungshin Women’s University held an orientation workshop titled “Chapter One: Welcome to Sungshin” at its Soojung Campus in Seongbuk-gu, Seoul, for newly admitted and transfer international degree students as well as other international students.

The workshop brought together approximately 360 international students, including 201 newly admitted and transfer undergraduate and graduate degree students, eight students participating in the Global Korea Scholarship (GKS) and other exchange programs, and 157 exchange students, invited scholarship students, and dual-degree students from Sungshin’s overseas partner universities.

Designed to support international students as they begin their studies and lives in Korea, the program aimed to help participants adjust smoothly to university life, better understand the administrative and academic services available on campus, and build stronger connections with fellow students.

A distinctive feature of this year’s workshop was the active involvement of 17 Korean and international students from the Sungshin International Student Association (SISA), who took the lead in both planning and operating the program. Drawing on their own experiences as students, SISA members focused on providing practical academic information and useful tips for settling into life at Sungshin.

During the morning session, participants were introduced to key university departments and services and received guidance on course registration. Team-building activities and an OX quiz on Sungshin and Korea provided an engaging way for students to learn essential information about university life.

In the afternoon, students gathered in outdoor spaces across the Soojung Campus to experience a variety of traditional and contemporary Korean games and activities, including ttakji-chigi, dodgeball, and a Korean snack guessing game. Through these activities, students had the opportunity to interact and build friendships across nationalities and academic disciplines.

Nomin Oyunbileg, a fourth-year student from Mongolia majoring in Convergence Security Engineering who has participated in the workshop for four consecutive years, highlighted the value of a program designed from an international student’s perspective.

“The program was particularly helpful because it was designed with international students’ needs in mind, providing practical information that supports their adjustment to university life,” the student said. “I hope newly arrived international students will use this opportunity to connect with one another and begin their first semester at Sungshin with greater confidence and comfort.”

Hyunjin So, Dean of International Affairs at Sungshin Women’s University, said, “The workshop was especially meaningful because members of the Sungshin International Student Association voluntarily created a platform for communication and took the initiative in leading the program.”

“We will continue to provide comprehensive support encompassing both academic and everyday life so that all international students can successfully settle into life at Sungshin and fully realize their potential,” So added.

Through programs such as “Chapter One: Welcome to Sungshin,” Sungshin Women’s University continues to strengthen its support system for international students and foster an inclusive campus environment where students from diverse cultural and academic backgrounds can connect, adapt, and thrive.
